Vic: Pedestrial killed at Croydon
Melbourne police are investigating the death of a pedestrian on the Maroondah Highway
at Croydon this morning.
Investigators believe two women were crossing the Highway about 200 metres from Croydon
Road at about 1:30 (AEDT).
The women had made it to the median strip when one realised she had dropped her phone
on the road.
Police believe she went back to collect her phone and was hit by an east bound four-wheel-drive.
The 24-year-old Ringwood woman died at the scene.
Her death brings the national Christmas road toll to 11 and Victoria's Christmas road
toll to three.
It brings the state's road toll for 2007 to 323.
(EDS: AAP's Xmas/New Year road toll figures are for the period 0001 December 21 to
2359 January 4. Some state and territory police forces may use different road toll periods.)
